ASSISTANT ARTISTIC DIRECTOR – CONTRACTED STAFF

Approximately 5 hours per week

Wage: The hourly wage will be discussed upon hiring and will be commensurate with experience

Role Details

  • 12-month part-time contract position offering approximately 5 hours per week with potential for extension after completion of 12 months
  • This position reports to and will work closely with the Executive Director.
  • Primarily in-person work and events, with occasional remote work (approx 2-4 per month).

Key responsibilities:

  • Work with the Executive Director to choose songs for upcoming seasons, including instrumentation, arranging and voicing
  • Work with the Executive Director for both rehearsals and performances
  • Coordinate with the Executive Director during rehearsals
  • Assist with the conducting of rehearsals and performances
  • Lead sectional warmups/rehearsing, as needed
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director in terms of artistic programming and the choir’s development

Qualifications for this position include:

  • A full understanding of what Momentum is and why it is so important
  • Experience in choral directing and/or choral development
  • Experience in working in the field of disabilities
  • Dedicated and enthusiastic interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills
  • Positive leadership skills
  • Ability to work with some flexibility based on special events, meetings, etc. that may fall outside of traditional work hours during evenings and weekends

Momentum Choir is a registered, Canadian not-for-profit organization that serves over 100 choir members, their families and caregivers in the Niagara Region and the City of Hamilton in the province of Ontario. Momentum Choir is a unique professional ensemble, exclusively consisting of adult artists living with a physical, emotional or intellectual disability.

Founded in 2007, Momentum Choir was born out of musical therapist Mendelt Hoekstra’s desire to enrich the lives of those living with disabilities through music and community involvement. The organization’s programs focus on nurturing musical talents, fostering inclusivity, and breaking down societal stigmas.
